My second appointment with this man and already a large problem has been provoked. In the first session with him I already discovered that this patient has some serious attitude and relationship problems, it is apparent that he almost doesn’t care about his actions, a total disregard for the safety and well being of others, and I fear, himself. This is why I am more concerned now then ever before, he came to me for guidance as he seemed to understand that some of his doings were wrong, but now for these doings he has been rewarded with the biggest reward possible for those in his field….Cecil Caster has been given a chance at the Valor World Heavyweight Championship. Because of this unusual situation I have decided, like last week, to record all of my meetings with Cecil so that I am able to look back over what he says and possible use them for future references......although I doubt one character such as this will ever be seen by myself or another psychiatrist again.

There is a flicker of static followed by the sound of a piece of plastic hitting against another. A few seconds pass before the screen then lights up with a new image. The video shows a dark room with only sections lit with a few strands of light breaking through the gaps in the wooden window blinds. Around the room we see a vacated desk, bookshelves lining the walls, a leather psychiatrists’ couch and luxurious green leather chair by the couch’s side. A male finger now fills the empty green chair, his suit giving of a sign of importance and his blue eyes, lit by the a reflection of light from his glasses, follow another figure who paces the room. This second man now moves in front of the couch and drops down laying onto it leaving his head resting on the end as he stares upwards as the psychiatrist in the chair close to him speaks.
Shrink: So, Cecil, how are you feeling today?
Cecil: I feel like one in a million doc, I’m guessing you heard the good news?
Shrink: I did indeed hear the…..good news.
Cecil turns his head over slowly and looks at the shrink.
Cecil: Tone in your voice makes me think you don’t agree that it is good news…..
The shrink looks back at Cecil without saying a word. After a few seconds of silence Cecil shrugs and turns his head back to looking upwards.
Cecil:….but hey, you’re the shrink I guess.
Shrink: So…..what did you make of the news?
Cecil: If I said it’s about time you’d write me down as being cocky, if I said I was honored you’d label me a ****, if I said I was neither you’d put me down as confused so my answer is, about time, I’m very honored and I couldn’t really care less. So before we get into another session here, I think I need you to understand something, the way you analyze things, break things down to find little connections and common occurrences, I’m going to analyze it all right back. I was sent to you , to find out things about me that will apparently make me more friendly, more approachable….but I like who I ‘am, so don’t think getting into my head is going to be easy.
The shrink pauses in thought before writing something down.
Shrink: So how do you feel about the way this opportunity came about?
Cecil: What? You mean being hand picked by Kyzer? I don’t care, guy has an eye for talent but he isn’t going to hold my hand through the match. Heck, he probably only chose me because he knows that Hardcastle thinks of me as the lowest of the lows, the kind of guy he just looks down his nose at, that would explain why he put the World Heavyweight title match at the bottom of the card. Being honest, Kyzer has done me a favor, not only in giving me the shot but Eric is so distracted by trying to get some kind of a scope on Kyzer’s thoughts that he doesn’t even see me coming…..just like at Shot Glass where he was too busy looking Kyzer in the eye he didn’t even spot me or that steel chair coming.
Shrink: Are you ok with the idea of attacking a man from behind?
Cecil: Well there is no real valor in it, but then again despite the name, the same goes for the federation. We have a drug abuser in charge and poor mans preacher as the world champion.
Shrink: Poor mans preacher?
Cecil: Yeah, the guy fakes his death and then comes back acting like he’s wrestling’s answer to Jesus.
Shrink: How do you know he faked his death, I thought the company were the ones who publicly announced he had passed?
Cecil: Ok, I know your not a medical doctor, doc, but come on, how many people do you know get hit by a car in a fatal way and yet are cleared to return to the ring just weeks later? It’s the kind of guy he is, he had to hide is lack of charisma and talent behind a pathetic day time drama scenario because he knew that sooner or later everyone was going to see how pathetic and uninspiring he really is…..even his nickname shows that, the prodigal messiah? That doesn’t even make sense, both words pretty much mean the same, what’s next the addicted addict Michael Kyzer?
Shrink: You seem to have a rather hostile opinion of Eric Hardcastle.
Cecil: I’ve seen one too many false prophets in my time to make anyone despise them. I’ve been a follower before, I know what it’s like to stand behind and let someone else lead the way and decide what you see, feel and think…..but this Sunday is my chance to become the leader.
The shrink now jots some more notes on his pad.
Shrink: What do you mean by that?
Cecil: Well, that is what the World Heavyweight title represents right? It’s to show who is the very best of what’s on offer, the one who is the face of the company, one who’s very name is thought of at the very mention of the business…by holding the belt in my arms, I will become the new face of Valor, it’s new leader, and then I will be the one looking down my nose at others.
Shrink: So your saying that in this match your somewhat driven by a desire for power?
Cecil laughs slightly to himself and shakes his head.
Cecil: Sure doc, why not, if you want throw down that I was abused as a child and we’ll call an end to these meetings huh?
The shrink once again crosses out some of his notes.
Shrink: You are hard to get inside of and you’re making it that way.
Cecil: So does a rock, you can hold a rock in your palm but not matter how hard you try you won’t crack…..
Cecil turns his head to look at the shrink.
Cecil:…..did I make that one clear enough for you?
Shrink: So what are you really thinking about this match? Do you truly believe you have a chance?
Cecil: I don’t see any reason to believe I don’t, so I guess if that is believing then I may. The roof over my head is built on a shaky foundation, what with the way my opportunity has come around, but I may just shock the world as I come crawling through the dirt and falling rubble to find my way out of the darkness that hides me from others. There is where I will stand, looking back at those I left behind as it all comes down, from nothing I shall become all at a time when most people would write that off as impossibility.
Shrink: Who has wrote you off?
Cecil: Everyone, Hardcastle has probably already bought another months supply of belt shine. No one really expects me to go in and take the title, but that is a shock everyone will feel. Hardcastle said Valor has a cancer, does he even get the full meaning of that or did he just hear it somewhere else and want to sound dramatic? Cancer is hidden inside of someone, you never see it coming, it’s part of you that infests, becomes part of you and then turns your body against itself…he should really consider me his cancer, I’ve been here in the place he calls home patiently waiting for a chance, now the very place he has called home seems to be going against him and my chance to attack has come now and the diagnosis’s for both of us are clear For me, win or loose, no bi deal. I win then yes, my era begins but if I loose, what do a truly loose? I can never miss what I never had, but Hardcastle, he would face a dark descent to the land of faceless no ones, and how would a man who is arrogant enough to rule himself a messiah cope with that?
Shrink: I’m more concerned with how you’ll cope with success should it come.
Cecil: Don’t worry about that doc, it’ll be a glorious moment, like I said the follower will become the leader but I will not lead no revolution, I will move alone and stand alone, no one helped me so I shall not help them. No matter what, I will not change, if your any good at your job you’ll know that my sat of mind is too twisted to even thing of a return to sanity, I won’t say this will be my sunrise or awaking, for people like me that doesn’t happen….it will still be a dark place, but it’s a full moon and I’ll be the only silhouette out on the night.
A few seconds of silence pass before Cecil sits up.
Cecil: I think that would be a good note to end this session on, least it’ll be pretty little tagline for your video.
Cecil now rises to his feet and begins to walk across the room to the door. He reaches out and turns the door handle but pauses as the shrink speaks.
Shrink: Wait, one last question….what about the claim that your just a chess piece for Kyzer?
A smile crosses Cecil’s face.
Cecil: Even a pawn can put the king in check.
Cecil now opens the door and exits the room, the shrink leans back in his chair where he removes his glasses and wipes some sweat from his forehead before turning off the camera.
