[Fade In]
[On his back porch in West Mars, PA is Shane Quickenbosh. Quickenbosh is the number three seed in the 2005 Young Lion's Cup Tournament. Physically, Quickenbosh has been preparing for this tournament for some time now. He has been preparing to prove to the world his abilities. YLC will give him that launch pad, just to do that. Staring off his back porch, searching his mind and soul, preparing his mind for October 21st is a different story. Shane turns and leans up against the side of the porch.]
Quickenbosh:
I have already circled the date on my calendar. Now there are but five days remaining until the 2005 Young Lion's Cup Championship kicks off. Just fives days till sixteen of the best junior heavyweights get together to put on fifteen highflying, technically charged matches.......all for the right to be known as the best. Several different companies are being represented. JWA, WFWF and of course Valor, not mention several others. Only the best of the best. Each company sending their best to Atlantic City, to gamble. The stakes have never been higher and the prize has never been richer.
[Quickenbosh reaches over and grabs a football of his picnic table. Shane tosses the ball into the air and catches it. He repeats this motion, as he continues to speak.]
Quickenbosh:
In my first round matchup, I have the undaunted task of facing somewhat of an unknown. Martin Paine is who I have drawn in my first round matchup. I, a number three seed, competing against Paine, a number fourteen seed. The seeding......in my mind means absolutely nothing. Look at the NCAA basketball tournament. Each and every year, the first round is just filled with upsets. There is always a "cinderella" team. Somehow, I don't see YLC being any different. There will be upsets in the first round, you can count on it. You can count on "Mr. Cinderella" making an appearance at this ball. I've gotta do my best to make sure that I am not on the receiving end of some glass slipper, if you know what I mean? I have to make sure that Shane Quickenbosh stays focused on Martin Paine. I don't know much about you, Martin. But I know that you wouldn't be in YLC, if you weren't one of the best in the world today. I also know you pride yourself on your technical ability. The same ability you employ in order to out wrestle your opponent. Possibly locking on a deadly submission dubbed "Ultimate Paine" or employing a devastating tiger driver, you dubbed "Paine's Ruling". See? I have been studying up on you. When it comes to wrestling, I am sponge. I am always looking for information. Studying videotapes, you name it. I prepare myself. At YLC, I will be more prepared than I have ever been.
[Shane takes the football and tosses it under his arm and over his shoulder, catching it in the nick of time.]
Quickenbosh:
Physically gifted and mentally tough. That's how I like to describe myself. Martin Paine, you have been described as a savvy technical expert. Someone who truly knows how to wrestle and outwrestle his opponent. I won't forget that. Hell, I consider myself to be somewhat technically savvy, as well. While mostly known for my highflying, I can get down and wrestle if need be. Paine, I am not underestimating you for one second. Not one single second. This tournament is won, match by match. Meaning, I am going to take his match as it comes. I'm not looking past anyone. Most certainly, I am not looking past you. Good luck in this tournament, Martin. I look forward to our encounter this Friday evening. And remember..........lightning has a habit of striking.........when you least expect it.
[Quickenbosh turns to his right and rifles the football over the fence and at his unsuspecting neighbor, who is grilling hamburgers outside. His neighbor is clubbed in the head by the football and falls over. Shane's eyes widen, as he expected his neighbor to turn and look. Shane climbs over the fence, to check on his fallen neighbor.]
