Color Commentary Edition 1 10/24/05

[Hardcastle]

The first installment of "Color Commentary". My choice words of rants and raves in the world of professional wrestling. This is how I see it and how I see it is RIGHT!!! LOL!!

I'm gonna chime in here. Cuz all you TNA marks need to shut your holes!! TNA is not as good as it was. TNA has done nothing but go right into the toilet ever since they lost their FSN deal. Absolutely nothing but tank. Here's how I see it:

1. AJ Styles is the man of TNA. He is the face of TNA. Period, end of story. Putting the title on Jeff Jarrett, not a bad move. Not a bad move at all. In fact, it was pretty smart. Starting the Spike deal with a credible and way over heel champ is smart. Gives people a reason to watch. Jarrett is one of the very few non WWE rejects. He walked away from WWE, not the other way around. Jarrett is not my favorite wrestler by any means, but he adds credibility. The issue I have with the World Title is what they did after the fact. Instead of booking Aj Styles, the face of TNA, to chase after the title.......he gets put into a repeat angle with Christopher Daniels?! WHY?!??! AJ Styles should be chasing after Jarrett. He should be pursuing the title. Jarrett with his band of heels vs. AJ.....a lone warrior. Gee.....I believe in that angle so much, I am doing it in Valor with Hardcastle and The Impact Players. It makes sense. Its a ratings grabber. People want AJ Styles to be champion. Have him chase Jarrett. Build a climatic end, add some drama and have AJ take the title and establish a new era in TNA with a long title reign.

2. In no way, shape or form should Jushin "Thunder" Liger be jobbing out to Samoa Joe in his first match in the US in how many years?! Liger is a major star! He is huge in Japan and a pioneer of the X Division. Furthermore, Samoa Joe should have have been his opponent. I would rather have seen Liger vs. Daniels. That match would have been phenomenal. What a great way to kick start Liger in TNA. Instead, you waste the talent like ROH did with Jimmy Yang. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Liger should go over every top TNA star, but his first match he should have been shown the courtesy of being booked over his opponent. An eventual loss to Samoa Joe would have been good booking. TNA forgot how to build drama. Then again, TNA has no idea on the concept of drama.

3. Last night's Ultimate X was pathetic. All 3 athletes are phenomenal in their own right, but Matt Bentley has been jobbed out left and right, over and over. Bentley is a GOLD MINE!!! Money in the bank. Phenomenal work ethic and not just an X division wrestler. Bentley is in the same class of AJ and Daniels....he is ready for a bigger role. Damn, NWA Cyberspace can realize it, why can't TNA? Bentley has not even been elevated to the higher ecleon of the X Division, when he should be competiting for top billing. He certainly isnt ready to carry the ball.......but lets just say he is better than some of the current crop of main eventers, including; Lance Hoyt, Monty Brown, Kip James, Konnan, BG James, AMW, Dudleys, should I continue?

4. Rhyno is not TNA Champion material, not yet at least. Booked 3 times last night?! Not Rhyno's fault. This is the TNA creative's fault. First off, Nash should never........evvvvveeeeerrrr been booked to face Jarrett. We already saw this match a few months ago. Enough. Next thing you know, DDP will return to side with Nash and they will face off against Jarrett and Monty Brown. Wait....we saw that already. Thats TNA's M/O......lets just rehash the same matches for last month's PPV. Iron Match with Styles and Daniels. World title match with Jarrett and Nash. Booking Nash was your first mistake. Your second was booking Rhyno to win. Rhyno lacks the charisma to carry the ball. Rhyno is a great guy, I have met him before. But he just isn't in that upper echleon that a Jarrett, Styles, Daniels, etc. are in. Sorry Rhyno, mid card status is the best you should be attaining.

5. Making Daniels AJ's bitch is bad booking. Both are phenomenal talents. But Daniels is treated like he is a second class citizen. Thats crap.

6. Make the X Division a true focal point of the show. Dont just make it dirt under the boots of the main event. Taking ROH talent is a fantastic idea......don't book them on the pre show and waste their talent. Aries, Strong, Joe, Sanin, Daniels.....these are the guys who should be contedning for the X Division title. The main players, throw in Petey Williams and Sonjay Dutt and you got something going here. Make the X Division fast paced and fun to watch. You got the workers. Stop boring me with the same old same old.

7. Can someone in TNA get a little creative? Can someone learn to build drama? Does anyone have any idea how to book a show?

8. Stop pushing Monty Green.....err Brown. He is awful. I'm sorry, but the guy is way to green. Not to mention stop pushing 3 Live Kru....they just plain suck. Stop pushing Lance Hoyt.....b/c he wishes he is Test. Stop pushing The Dudleys......they are not as good as everyone thinks they are.

9. Stop pushing every WWE reject. Rhyno, Dudleys, Nash, Raven. Enough is enough. Create your own stars, you have the talent to do it. Guys like Joe and Aries are established on the indys, but general WWE and TNA guys really have no idea who they are. Lets see: Samoa Joe, Austin Aries, Strong, Sabin, BENTLEY, Petey....those are a list of guys that you can turn into huge stars! You dont need the Dudleys. You dont need Raven. You dont need Nash or Hall or Randy Savage?! What a waste of money to bring Savage in. Why dont you go try booking the Ultimate Warrior now? Or maybe someone can dig up Andre The Giant and book him?

10. Why have you not signed Kazarian? Why have you not signed Shannon Moore? Why didn't you do whatever it took to get Jericho in TNA?! How could you screw up the relationship with guys like Vampiro and CM Punk, so bad that neither ever want to work for TNA again?!

11. Why do you consider ROH the only place to get talent?! There is a place called Chikara just flooding over with amazing talent!!! Quackenbush, Chris Hero, Cannon, CLAUDIO, Jigsaw, Akuma, etc. The X Division would be phenomenal. Give me Styles vs. Quack. Give me Hero vs. Joe. Give me Cannon vs. Daniels. Give me Claudio vs. bentley. Give me Jigsaw vs. Petey. Go get this phenomenal talent!!!!

In closing, TNA has phenomenal athletes. Horrible booking. In no way, shape or form, is TNA creative better than WWE. Its not. The booking is awful. WWE at least has something they can hang their hats on. It aint a whole lot, but its something. Edge/Hardy was amazing. Flair/HHH is being done nicely. They have something at least. They lack the ability to let loose. Which makes WWE's matches not as good. But WWE can build drama and they can build story. That you cannot take away from them.


ROH.....well, they took have gone right into the toilet. Once Punk left, they haven't done anything but trade the ROH Title around from one guy to the next. The ROH title means dick now. Danielson is a great worker, but he has about as much charisma as a bucket of moneky piss.

The most exciting promotion on the planet today is Chikara, bar none. For a measely $10 ticket, you will get 3-4 hrs. of some of the most phenomenal athletic displays you can find. If you haven't seen Chikara, you are missing out. Stories lack a little depth. But they do have a little of something for everyone. Lucha libre, pureosau, chain wrestling, hard hitting and there is even comedy as well. There is no ulta violent hardcore, but I dont really consider that TRUE wrestling anyway. I enjoy it, dont get me wrong. But I dont consider it pro wrestling. I had fun writing this. Maybe I will post a weekly column of tidbits and rants each week and you guys can talk about it there. This board is more for Valor General Discussion.

1. AJ Styles is the man of TNA. He is the face of TNA. Period, end of story. Putting the title on Jeff Jarrett, not a bad move. Not a bad move at all. In fact, it was pretty smart. Partner Styles with Waltman, Lynn, Dutt, someone and have them chase the Tag Belts for a change. A giant breath of fresh air if ya ask me.

The match could've reached Kenta/Joe level, had they get more time. Scrap the useless Six Man Tags and give this match more time. A good solid 15-20 bout could've resulted in something than a glorified squash. I still love Joe and hope he wins the title sooner than later.

These people love wrestling, can they really help it if they want to find work other than WWE?

Rhino is energetic. He has the crowd on the palm of hands with the "GORE" chants. How many "Stroke" chants do I hear for Jarrett? No one said Rhino HAS to be a long term champion. It was a good surprise twist, and had it not happened, BFG would've been like every other PPV Pre-Hard Justice.

I agree. The Four Way should've replaced the Six Man Tag on the PPV. Dutt's first win in HOW MANY MONTHS, and its on a Pre-Show PPV?

I believe Kazarian is still under his 90 Day No Compete Clause. Moore is said to be a deadlock. Jericho said he's not even considering going to TNA. That little link he posted on his site posing in front the TNA logo was a trick against Smarks. Technically Rob Feinstein is the issue for Punk not wanting to work with TNA. During the Feinstein incident, Management wanted all ROH guys in TNA to stay in TNA [Punk, Daniels, Styles]. All but Punk stayed and thats why he didn't go back. Vampiro I dunno.

Bucket of monkey piss? Okay then The Rock. Thats the issue with that statement. In ROH, charisma doesn't matter. As long as you can wrestle and entertain the crowd, they don't care. Styles is one of the most uncharismatic dudes on the roster, but he's one of the best guys on the Indy. And since when was Punk the greatest thing in ROH? Last time I checked, his in-ring work ranged from good to sloppy, and he doesn't exactly put on Chris Benoit-calibur matches EVERY TIME. Danielson has the chance to prove every hater wrong and show that he can defend the title to the fullest and not pass it around like Ghonorrea.

1. Styles is a main event player. Why do you want to take the most recognized face in TNA and probably the most talented and have him get slaved into the Tag Division. BOO!! One place for AJ.....World Title scene.

2. Agreed on the 6 man tags and agree on the Kenta/Joe. I just didnt like the ending, Liger deserved better from TNA.

3. Your analogy makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The Dudleys dont work at Burger King and they arent trying to get a job at Wendy's. Fast food joints dont provide a very hard trade to master nor is it such a highly skilled position that the major companies only want the best. That remark was truly assinine. The fact that never accomplished $hit in WWE, makes them rejects. Dont start ranting how The Dudleys won all those tag titles. Other than E & C and The Hardys, the Dudleys never had competition. Besides both E & C and The Hardys dominated The Dudley's. Their gimmick sucks and I hate it when people mention them in the same breath as LOD, Hart Foundation, Midnight Express, Bulldogs etc. Its a disgrace.

4. Rhyno does not have the crowd in the palm of his hands. He might have a few thousand people in Orlando fooled, but not the rest of the world. We dont see "Stroke" chants, b/c Jarrett is a heel and not a face. Or did you not notice that? I know it must be tough to make that distinguishment, considering how TNA changes wrestler's affiliations weekly. Rhyno entered BFG as a heel in a bitter feud with Sabu. Now he is face challenging Jarrett?! That makes sense. I can see why you like TNA so much.....neither one of you make sense.

5. Longest reigning AJ's bitch!!!! Thats what Daniels has been in TNA for most of his stay there. If you cant figure out how he is AJ's bitch then you must be a TNA writer.



6. Dutt's win?! Who cares?! Who cares about Sonjay Dutt?! I'm talking Aries, Strong, Shelley. Dutt?! Book him on Explosion against Lance Hoyt. Neither have any charisma and won't put to sleep those who stay up till 1 am.

7. I'm sorry.....but great "repeat" matches on an undercard and a poor main event.....doesn't make me want to spend $30. Sorry.

10. I believe Kazarian's 90 is up. Thats what I heard. I could be wrong, not completely 100% positive. Moore might be a deadlock, but he has not signed as of right now. As far as Jericho's link.....I dont care. I'm not citing TNA/Jericho b/c of that link. I cited the reason, cuz Jericho aint signed to WWE right now. How about The Rock? Rock would be another they should pursue.

I do know about The Feinstein incident and how it had nothing to do with Punk leaving TNA. Punk left TNA cuz TNA thought some punk bitch named Teddy Hart deserved to be there. Punk put the bitch in his place and TNA creative told them they had nothing for him any longer. His pathetic contract ran out and Punk was gone. Teddy Hart......LOL!!!! So funny. Teddy Hart needs Bret to take him over his knee and spank his bottom blue!

11. I'm The Rock?! WOW!! Thanks man. I take that as a huge compliment. In Pro Wrestling....charisma does mean something. Regardless if its WWE, TNA or ROH. Danielson is a great technician, but my Thanksgiving Turkey makes me less sleepy.

Styles is extremely charismatic?! Are you blind, Ray Charles?! What show are you watching? Or do you just read the results on the Torch? Punk is the greatest thing to ever come out of ROH. No disrespect to Joe or Daniels or Styles, etc. But CM Punk had it all. And this could make you love him or hate him in an instant.....IE Death Before Dishonor III.

I dont see Danielson lasting a champ too long. This is the same guy that quit wrestling a few months ago, right? Same guy, right? Yeah...thought so. Cattle Mutilation my ass!!!

AJ has about as much going for him right now as Randy Orton does. WWE pushed Orton too fast and ended up making it so he has nothing left for him to accomplish. Same applies for TNA and AJ Styles. They've pushed him too quickly in a short amount of time and now he has nothing left to do in TNA.

Besides, he's a spot-fuck. Not as bad as Jeff Hardy, but still a spot-fuck none the less.

WWE pushed Orton hard and the minute he stumbled for one second, they took the belt off of him and put it on HHH. If you dont give the man a chance, his hands will be tied. Your analogy is perfect. AJ was in the same spot. Given the ball and taken away a month later. 30 days is not enough time to really know what you have.

Styles is not a spot fuck. Jeff is.....b/c thats his thing. He does crazy spots and thats about it. Styles puts on great matches, some of the best in TNA right now. Just b/c he can pull off high risk moves, doesn't make him a spot fuck.

Time for my 2 cents?! YAY! In the words of the oh so wise Mario Mario "OK Here We Go!"

All those who don't give CM Punk the absolute credit he deserves need to turn in their wrestling fan license right now. Not to be a mark for Punker, but he has some of the greatest matches of this era. His trilogy with Joe is the one of the biggest reasons people even know about ROH. Have you seen them at all? If not, I have Joe vs Punk 1 and 3 on my computer now. I'll send them to you to download and marvel at the mastery. Did you see Punk's match with Aries to win the ROH title? No, I have that on my computer too. Samoa Joe held that title for nearly two years and didn't get the amount of cheers that Punk did the night he won. Punk also has a ridiculously rabid fan base that most indys, or even big timers are envious of. Give respect when respect is due.

Rhyno needs to walk into the NWA/TNA offices and lay that title strap on the desk right now. Rhino can't build heat. Once he gores the hell out of you what else is left? ................When you think of something, let me know. He's a midcarder for life. I'm sorry, but it's true. If he wasn't pushed so hard in ECW, he would be a nobody. Rhyno's prestige is due to the feud he had with RVD and Sabu back in ECW. That's the only reason why he's even a known commodity right now. He needs to lose the strap ASAP if TNA wants to survive.

Why do people hate Jarrett so much? He never gets the respect he deserves. The man is a PURE OVER THE TOP HEEL! People don't seem to realize that. I mentioned something about that in my Straight Shoot'n segment. People don't want true heels anymore; all people want is various shades of grey. Why? Why does a heel have to be cheered to be pushed? Why does he have to sell a dickload of merchandise to measure his prestige? It doesn't make sense. Jarrett is one of the few wrestlers who have stayed true to their gimmick from the get go. Think about it...When have you ever seen Jarrett as a babyface? I can honestly say never. Even when he was trying to be a part of the 4 Horsemen after he left the WWF and joined WCW, he was the HEEL of that storyline. Jarrett was trying to take over the Horsemen. His character is the asshole that no one is supposed to like...that's why he doesn't get cheers. The man has held gold in EVERY promotion he has ever been in. The only fed he hasn't held the world title in is the WWE...and I could be wrong about that. He earns his titles because when a fed needs that top heel to push a babyface...Jarrett is the man.

AJ is a great talent, but my 10 yr old cousin has better mic skills than him. AJ has no mic presence. If you want to be world champion on a major stage, you have to be able to control the mic. Think about it...Go back as far as you can to every world champ you can think of. Every last one who could hold the belt for more than a month had mic skills. Even Batista has better mic presence than AJ, and that's sad. Unless you can get the crowd to chant your name nonstop and your not even in the match, then you need to control the mic. AJ can't do it, and until he can, he won't hold the NWA title for long periods of time. Never has, never will.

I didn't know Hoyt was getting a push. All I've seen him do is lose on a regular basis. 3LK, the only thing I can see going on is this story with Kip and the 3LK, I don't think that's a push to be honest. I'm hoping that story has an ending at some point.

I don't know if this is true or not, but something along the lines of AJ is more comfortable in the X-Division than the Heavyweight Division. Sound about right? Warrior going into wrestling again would be like hell freezing over.

Brandon, you're wrong. AJ is not horrible on the microphone. He's no Punker, but he certainly isn't the worst. Besides the fact that AJ is one of the very few men to get OVER HUGE without being stellar on the mic. He's over. Period. He is also the most over face in TNA. Thats inarguable.

Zmaster, your remarks towards Hoyt and 3LK is crap! Both men are pushed on TNA programming. Maybe not to the World Title status, but they dominate air time. The last episode of impact feautred a main event including Lance Hoyt?! He teamed with AJ and Hardy, the 2 biggest babyfaces there. Sounds like a push.

3LK is all over the freaking place all the freaking time. I'm sick of friggn' Konnan. Hey Konnan, your gimmick wasn't cool in 1998, why do you think its cool now?! Someone get this guy a better gimmick. A shame really too......the REAL Konnan from CMLL and Aztec was a badass and a fantastic wrestler. This Konnan is a punk. Besides 3LK has been feuding with Kip James for a year. Reunite the Outlaws already......GEEZ!!! Enough!

I still wish Truth would get a singles push already. He's seriously one of the most charismatic guys on that roster, and is the best part of 3LK. HA! HA! HA! I forgot about Konnan throwing his shoe. I saw that on Impact a week or so ago and just about spit my soda out!! I was like....did Konnan just throw his shoe?! HUH?!

Truth is a great athlete, but I dont like him. Something about him annoys me. But I agree he needs to be out on his own away from 3LK.
